Did you know that over 11 million homes in the US own an RV? Are you one of these households?
If not, are you thinking about buying one of these amazing recreational vehicles? Regardless, you’ll want to know a thing or two about RV maintenance.
Well, we can help you out with that. There is a lot that goes into RV ownership, and we’re going to discuss it all below. Here is the only RV maintenance checklist you’ll ever need!
Run the Generator
Gas doesn’t stay good forever. Once a month, you need to run the generator in your RV for 2 to 3 hours. This will ensure that the gas doesn’t do any harm to your generator over time.
Add Water to the Battery
To keep an RV battery operational, you need to ensure that it’s filled with water. Add water to the top level of the battery once a month, using distilled water only.
Inspect for Gaps
If you’re not diligent about inspecting your RV for gaps, insects and other pests could make their way in. Once every month, give your RV a full inspection, patching up gaps as you go.
Look Under the Hood
As with any vehicle, you need to look under your RV’s hood from time to time. When doing so, check for loose clasps, low fluid levels, broken hoses, and the like. Allowing these problems to persist could result in substantial issues down the line.
Wax the Exterior
You likely paid at least tens of thousands of dollars for your RV. As such, you want to care for it as well as you possibly can. This is why, every 3 to 4 months, you should wax its exterior using specialized RV wax.
Bleach the Water
In order for your RV to run properly, it must utilize clean and purified water. This is why, every 3 to 4 months, you need to pour 1/2 cup of bleach into the water system.
After letting this bleach sit in the system for around 24 hours, run the system until the bleach has made its way out. Once it’s out, the system will be clean and good to go.
Deep Clean Your RV
An RV is like any other living space; it gets dirty. As such, once or twice a year, you should deep clean your RV. Ideally, you’ll do this right before the RV goes into storage.
Allowing food scraps and other such entities to remain in your RV can cause bigger issues over time. Make sure you vacuum, dust, mop, and do everything else necessary to keep the RV sanitary.
Service the HVAC System
Finally, you need to service your HVAC system. Clean it, inspect it, change its filter, and make sure it’s running as intended. In fact, if possible, bring in a professional HVAC technician to do it for you. Look here for more information on RV maintenance.
RV Maintenance Is a Must
Whether you’re going camping or driving across the country, buying an RV is an investment, one with tens of thousands of dollars on the line. The last thing you want is for your RV to give in years before its time. As such, you must facilitate RV maintenance on a regular basis.
