A new trail path has been built in China’s Tianmen Mountain national park which is not for the faint hearted. This new path has been constructed on the side of the mountain and is made from glass. Visitors to the park who are brave enough can walk on the glass walkway and take in the amazing views beneath their feet.
This new walkway spans three feet wide, composed of glass 2.5-inches thick. It measures approximately 200 feet (61 meters) long and is suspended almost a mile into the air at about 4700 feet (1430 meters).
The walkway joins the west cliff at the Yunmeng fairy summit, where Tianmen Mountain and Zhang Jiajie meet. visitors to the Tianmen Mountain bridge are requested to wear shoe covers to keep the glass transparent and clean.
Tianmen Mountain is situated 8 kilometers from the urban district and is regarded as the symbol and soul of Zhangjiajie. The highest peak is around 1518.6 meters above sea level and the mountain is named after the natural huge cave half way up the mountain just like a gate to the heaven, hence, the name Heavenly Gate Mountain – Tianmen Mountian.
