Guy Builds World Globe Using Handed Painted Matchsticks 1

At first glance this may look like just a giant globe but it has been painstakingly made from matchsticks.

It took American sculptor Andy Yoder two years to build this giant model of planet Earth and it is was recently on display at the New York gallery. Andy has named this piece of art ‘Early One Morning’.

Every match was individually hand painted to show the countries of Earth, but it took Andy some time to play around with different colors to get the most perfect results.

For added realism Andy added global weather clouds which included a view of what Hurricane Sandy looked like from outer space while it ravaged the Eastern American coast line.

Being made of matches there was a slight risk of fire so Andy had to coat the sculpture in a flame retardant to prevent any accidents.

Andy Yoder’s other work includes Licorice Shoes and various lead crystal head busts. If you would like to find out more about Andy Yoder and see his creations visit his official site here.
