If you are ever visiting Rome I truly recommend taking a break from the city and visiting the magnificent Tivoli fountains.
Just 30 kilometers from Rome sitting on the edge of a cliff is the ancient city of Tivoli which not only has amazing views of Italy but is famous for the Villa d’Este which has one of the biggest collection of fountains in the world.
Even though the sixteenth-century Villa is interesting to see it’s the amazing gardens that attract the tourists.
The garden features five hundred fountain jets along with pools and water troughs.
As you walk through the gardens you feel you have entered a magical place with every fountain you come across being more amazing than the previous. One of the biggest atractions in the garden is the Bernini-designed Fountain which uses water pressure to play music through a concealed organ.
Many of the statues that are seen in the gardens were brought here after being discovered during the excavating of ancient Roman sites. So the gardens are rich in Roman history as well as being a wonder to visit.
The Villa d’Este is now classed as a World Heritage Sight by Unesco with them stating that it is one of the most remarkable and comprehensive illustrations of Renaissance culture at its most refined.
The gardens are open all year round and if you wish to find out more visit the Villa d’Este official site here.
