Without any doubt these tiny hippo’s have to be one of the cutest animals ever. So it has to asked, who would like one as a pet?
The pygmy hippopotamus is a small very small hippo only native to the forests and swamps of West Africa, primarily in Liberia and a few small populations in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Ivory Coast. It is reclusive and nocturnal. It is one of only two extant species in the Hippopotamidae family, the other being its enormous cousin the common hippopotamus.
The pygmy hippo share many characteristics of its larger cousin spending much of its time in the water and only eating lush vegetable matter. But one characteristic that is different is that the pygmy is not so aggressive and in fact they adore being looked after by humans.
The species is endangered and it is though that only 3000 still exist in the wild.
Of course it would be very wrong to take the remaining few and keep them as pets but you must admit these tiny cuddly animals are just so darn cute!
The images you see here are all of the baby pygmy hippo but even the adults only grow to a height of around 2 feet and are just as adorable and loving.
