Check out our Lego action heroes and their cars.
A Lego fanatic has created the iconic cars from his favourite 1980s TV movies out of the iconic plastic bricks.
Ralph Savelsberg, 37, has painstakingly recreated the Ghostbusters’ Ecto-1, General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard, K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider and the A-Team van.
The physicist and lecturer at the Netherlands Defence Academy, said: “I grew up watching shows like the A-Team, Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard as well as movies such as Ghostbusters. I started building with LEGO as a child and have never completely stopped. It’s my hobby and great way to relax after working long days.
‘I mainly build models of cars and military aircraft and built the A-Team van a few months ago. The main inspiration for that was a gold-coloured chain that I found among my LEGO parts. I was immediately reminded of Mr. T. and I figured it would be perfect for his necklace.
‘I built a few other things, until I saw Ghostbusters for the umpteenth time a few weeks ago. Their Ecto-1 is a movie classic and I figured that its shape and all the stuff that it carries on its roof would make it interesting.
“I also knew that it would be recognisable to people at exhibitions, which is always fun. I enjoyed building it so much that I decided to look at other movie and TV cars that I grew up watching as a child: K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider seemed an obvious choice. I watched that show almost religiously as an eight-year old.
‘I don’t remember liking the show very much, but The General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard was also an obvious choice. I primarily like it because the orange colour really catches the eye.
“I always build my models using photographs and a drawing. From the photographs and measurements of the real vehicles I work out how large the scale model needs to be in bricks and make a small drawing that shows how many bricks the wheels need to be apart and how the large the doors need to be, for instance.I use the drawing to get the proportions right.’
