Fun Weekend Activities for You and Your Child

Finding fun activities that you can enjoy with your child during the weekend can sometimes prove challenging. You need to be resourceful and make sure you plan interesting pastimes that you can enjoy together as a family. The goal is to schedule activities that allow you to take in as much sunshine and fresh air as possible, enjoying the outdoors while making beautiful memories.

Organize a Treasure Hunt

You can transform the park into a mysterious island that holds a treasure waiting to be discovered. You can make believe that you are pirates that have stumbled upon another crew’s treasure map, and decide to explore the island looking for the loot. This activity will take some planning and you need to prepare the treasure hunting territory in advance.

To make things more interesting you can divide responsibilities between you and your spouse. One of you can be in charge of designing the map and preparing the terrain where the search will take place, and the other one can go looking for the gold together with the young ones. You don’t necessarily need to cover a lot of ground, because as long as the landscape where the clues are hidden offers enough diversity, your journey through the scenery will be an adventurous one.

You can use the map to guide you through your quest, and find the scattered clues that will bring you closer to the reward. You can even put on pirate costumes to make your story come to life and your adventure more interesting. Seeing how this might be more fun if you involve more people, you could think of inviting your child’s friends to join the search. If this seems as a more appealing option, organizing the event can be a task that is taken on solely by your family, or you could enlist the aid of other parents as well. Once the gold has been found it can be used to treat the entire crew to some well-deserved ice cream.

Go Picnicking

Another great way to enjoy nature and spend quality time with your family is to prepare some tasty treats and go on a picnic. Your child will surely enjoy helping you prepare some healthy and delicious snacks, and packing the picnic basket will also be a lot of fun. You don’t have to prepare elaborate dishes, you can just pack some veggies and fruit.

Throw in some sandwiches as well, and you are probably going to please all those attending. A little extra effort in preparing for the picnic might actually be fun and you could consider making some lemonade and baking some muffins or cookies to take with you. Don’t forget to bring along a frisbee or a ball, so you can make the most out of your outing, keeping your child entertained after you enjoy the delicious food you prepared for the occasion.

Enjoy Some Gardening

If you are lucky enough to have a backyard, why not discover the beauty of gardening together with your little one? Even if you don’t have a backyard you can still use a few containers with soil and plant some herbs or some vegetables. You will enjoy the time spent together, using your hands and getting them dirty, as well as the reward of watching your small green corner come to life. Even preparing your gardening project will be a lot of fun as you will have to go shopping for supplies, seeds and gardening tools.

Even though gardening will probably start as a weekend project, it will extend throughout the week, with the added bonus that your child will learn the responsibility of caring for the plants you are growing. You can make custom labels for your plants, keep track of their development and your child will learn how to care for them until it’s time to enjoy the fruit of your labor, which will surely prove extremely rewarding.
